14th / 15th April 2006 - Andros

I was waiting all morning yesterday for someone on board to wish me a happy birthday on the 14th. By the time we were half way across I decided they needed some kind of subtle hint. I stuck this on and even then had to draw their attention to it..........

As the forecast for the 15th is not any better - F8/9 from the north - we've decided to stop for one day here on Andros. We hired a small car late morning and drove over to the other side of the island and Andros Town. The island is surprisingly lush, lots of cypress trees, rich meadows, wildflowers etc.
Here's a shot of Sue and Marcus looking down some narrow stone stairs from the town centre to one of the beaches. The sun may look great - but the bloody wind is still blowing.

When we got back we lugged 70 litres of fuel across from the local car garage and syphoned it into our tanks - so if tomorrows forecast is correct and winds maybe ease or change direction so we're not bashing against seas, then we may well go from here to Avylik on the Turkish coast in one 140 mile hit.
Thats almost a full 24 hours - so topping up the tanks just in case wind goes completely, makes good sense.
Cheers
