Challenge to come - in June
Posted at 10:42 AM, Sunday, February 22, 2009
Hi All,
This is a begging blog.
Last year we formed a small team and did the London to Brighton 60 mile bike challenge - all in aid of the British Heart Foundation. We raised close to £500 between us in private sponsorship.
This year the event falls on the Sunday of the same weekend over which the Round The Island Yacht Race is also run..........
So our challenge for this coming June will be to enter the Yacht Race with Swagman on the Saturday, when we'll start at 6 am and try to get round the 60 mile race course in the top 10% of finishers. Normally they attract over 1,800 race entries, so we've got to achieve position 180 or better over all.....
Then it will be straight back to home port of Lymington, and car down to Brighton where at 5 am the next day we then jump a bus up to London....and join with 30,000 other cyclists in doing the 60 mile up hill, down dale course to Brighton on the Sussex coast.
We are already well down a training regime which sees us building our ability to cover this distance in a reasonable time - and it will be with a team of ten family and pals. Out goal as a team is to arrive inside the top 10% placings once more - so we have to average better than a 3,000 th place!
Again, we're trying hard to raise as many pennies as we can for the British Heart Foundation who do great work researching heart issues and basically saving lives.
I'm personally going to give the BHF 100 even if I don't make it in these times, but (and here's the begging bit) the BHF would love it if you'd sponsor us for even $10. Every single penny helps.
Go see the page we've set up on their site to allows people to donate online - it is easy and quick - please help if you can.
