Swagmans Sailing Blog

Come on in and say hello via a 'comment'. We've cruised our Hanse 46' sailboat from UK to Egypt to the Caribbean mainly two handed from 2004 to 2008 and enjoyed every minute. We are back temporarily in the UK - but sunshine beckons us again for summer 2009.

SWAGMANS ARRIVED IN THE UK!

Posted at 3:05 PM, Monday, June 2, 2008

Hi All,

Got this short missive from Matt - our delivery skipper.

Hi John

Made it to Horta in 15 days 3 hours. A very good crossing, no problems other than the gps on the plotter stopped working! I think it is just the arial connection becouse the rest works fine. I will investegate further and try to fix it before we leave. I will look at the weather and let you know when we leave. love to Sue. Matt PS The code 0, what a good sail!!!!!

If they stop over for 2 days then continue on at same pace then ETA will be as planned - mid month.

Cheers

JOHN

Deaprture from Azores to Lymington

Posted by swagman at 1:39 PM, Thursday, June 5, 2008

Hi All,
Got this today from Matt:
Hi Talked to "mid atlantic", they suggested it was damp in the active areal. apparently a common problem with this system. So I stripped and dried it, it now works intermitantly, but you will probaly have to replace it soon. I cant source one here the best estemate on time to fit one was two weeks!!! So we will use my trusty old hand, no a problem! We are leaving shortly and hope to be with you in 8 to 10 days, more light winds forecast. see you soon Matt, Marley and crew.

Swagman Arrrived

Posted by at 6:28 AM, Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Pleased to record Matt and his all lady crew of Marlena, Lucy and Rebecca arrived midday yesterday into Lymington.
After sharing stories over a few cleansing ales and a meal ashore, they departed for Suffolk last night.
Boat looks great - zero damage - a good delivery job done by all.

Nice one. I expect you are well pleased to be reacquainted with Swagman and looking forward to the round the island race. We'll see you there and at the Hanse rally. We'll probably be calling in at Lymington on the Thursday before the rally, so maybe we might even hook up and leave in company on the Fri?

Hi Marcust

Would have loved to, but only arive back from a Spanish jaunt on the Friday so will either head Hamble wise for the rally on Friday late or Saturday early.
Aim to take Swagman over to Cowes for RiR on Thursday evening to esure berth for Friday night. Whats your plans?

Round the island

Posted by Anonymous at 8:30 AM, Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Well I'd prefer to get there Thu evening but that doesn't look likely. My crew can't join me until late Thu night, so looks like we'll be sailing to Cowes from Poole on Friday. So I think we're just going to have to take pot luck. Although I'm wondering whether it might be worth sailing to Lymington solo on Thu afternoon - tides look good to get through Hurst until about 6pm - and then my crew could drive to Lymington later and we could then head up to Cowes late Thu night. Might have a better chance of getting a berth then. We'll see .... more nervous about the berthing than the racing! :-/

Hi Matey

Is Gerry coming as crew?
I've tried to book a spot but E Cowes and Haven both filly booked. Think it may still be possible to book a mooring with Cowes Harbour Commission but then got issues getting to and fro. Sheppards (run by CHC) is first come first serve but if you get in for Friday night then whatever time to arrive back Saturday arvo - they'll sort you a spot somewhere.
Hence our getting over Thursday evening to get in there - hopefully.
Anyway, see you somewhere and good luck on the race.
JOHN

Only just seen your reply hence late response. No, unfortunately Gerry not coming now. Our revised plans are that we will leave Poole late tonight and get to Hurst at start of flood and grab a buoy at Yarmouth for the night, around midnight. We'll then hop along to Cowes early Friday morning. Hopefully that way we'll beat the rush. Otherwise, tides the way they are, we won't be getting to Cowes until late Friday arvo. Probably along with everyone else. So, anyway, we'll look out for you tomorrow. See you then!

Nooka says Hi

Posted by Anonymous at 3:18 PM, Saturday, July 12, 2008

hiya Johnno & Sue - have lost my phone (dropped it in the sea in Bonaire) so don;t have your numbers any more... how you doing? I am in Curacao putting Nooka to bed for the hurricane season then back to UK next tuesday. Nooka and I are getting on fine although had some interesting times too getting to know all the kit....- best bit is that I sailed her to Curacao from Bonaire all on my own. Very proud of myself. Not sure what to do next, although may have to go back to work soon I suppose... Hope to meet up with you and maybe Luce too in Lymington some time over the summer? p.s. I am going to Rod and Laura's wedding (from Lily, the halberg next to us in Las Palmas) in switzerland in september.

Hi Hannah - sorry if I missed this message as not visited for a week so hoping you seethis response.
Caught up a couple of times with Rod during Antigua Race Wekk (he was crewing on a winning J) but was not aware of the marriage plans.
But really nice to hear from you and the wintering plans. Good stuff.
And if you'd dare to visit Lymington and not call by you'd be in deep trouble.
Email me at work with a new number and I'll call you back with ours. john.allison(at)ERAUK.net.
Lotsa love - to you and Nooka
John and Sue xx
