Come on in and say hello via a 'comment'. We've cruised our Hanse 46' sailboat from UK to Egypt to the Caribbean mainly two handed from 2004 to 2008 and enjoyed every minute. We are back temporarily in the UK - but sunshine beckons us again for summer 2009.

16th July 2005 - San Vincente and Alcudiamar

Posted at 3:14 PM, Sunday, July 17, 2005

Spent last night at anchor in Cala de San Vincente.  We'd left Deia mid morning looking to maybe stoppover in Soller an hour or so to our north - but enjoying the freedom of achoring in cala's chose to skip by Soller and park in San Vincente.

The cala divides into two small bays at it's head - both surrounded by small restaurants and bars - and dominated by two hotels.  We parked up in the northern most bay but found we had to go around to the southern most as it had the only dinghy landing area in the cala.  We found a super restaurant not on the front - it is part of the Hotel Cala Sant Vincenc - tel 971 530250.  We ate in their Trattoria - very modern and quality Italian cuisine plus Conran type decor - but not so expensive it blew anyones budget.  Recommend the walk if you are ever staying there - look at www.hotelcala.com.

Woke up this morning to see a wall of seamist rolling in slowly from the west.  Most impressive.

We sailed (ie motored) out into that - it was soooo cool it was lovely.  Even as it lifted later in the morning as we motored north - it was a spectacular way to see the last of the high western coast as we rounded Caba Formentor on our way to Alcudia.

The sea mist evaporated as we did clear the cape and 60 minutes later were entering Alcudiamar - the marina at Alcudia.  We telephoned ahead - but plenty of space so they simply referred us to a marinero via VHF Ch 9 - and soon we were parked up nicely.

Lots of quay side bars etc less than 100 M away - Alcudia itself at end of marina complex.

The girls catch a cab from here tonight to Palma Airport and then to Bournemouth via Thomsons.

We'll probably stay over for a few nights and may hire a car to explore the hinterland from here.

Our next guests - Pattie and Paul - arrive Wednesday so we will be asking them to cab here - and return them to Palma by backtracking our past weeks route down that spectacular west coast.  That will then see us in Palma in 10 days time, and free to swoop down to Formentera for a further week or two under some palm trees catching up with Spectra.  She's a Vagabond 48 owned by some nice guys from the rally who aim to get there the same time.

Alcudia cost for 14 M pen - Eu73 per night water / elec inclusive.  You need special  metal connectors to get water at the jetties (as you also do at Andraitz). A deposit to hire one is Eu20 - from the marineres.

The advertised laundrette is actual a service wash - and closed Sunday!  Frustrating as we wished to sort out the laundry but a further good excuse to stay over for a couple of days.

Now 1630 in afternoon - still as hot as anything - cold showers on transom seem to help - but no complaints from us.

Cheers

John

Hi John/Sue

Good to read that the weather is holding up.........hysterical laughter !!!!

Absolutely smashing photo of the cliffs and sea mist swirling, all that's missing is Basil Rathbone on the clifftop.

Please don't forget to pick up dongle and download the relevant photo's to pass over to a certain wee humble cave dweller, who will re-imburse you for your outlay of Groats upon your return.

I might just have mentioned this before in the passing, but it's now only four weeks to go. However, being an adult and not prone to any childish excitement, and keeping a cool head at all times......

Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Sorry I couldn't help myself :-)

Take care
