Schooner Rachel Corrie

• Mar. 21, 2005 - Hunters from Europe

That was embarrassing at times. The hunters paid DM1500,- per day for food and accomodation for just staying at the farm, vehicles, guides, rifles, and trophy cost extra. As the word went around, they liked to sit around my fire, and eat my food, but paid like hell to the farm. What should I do? I just played dumb and thick skinned.

After all, I do make the worlds best gulash, as I have been assured by a chef from a cruise liner. Names of visitors are long forgotten, but Susi stuck with me for most of the project, in the end, her business, and the 400km from the coast to Windhoek were too much. We are still good friends. She was a super girl, 21 years younger, from Germany, but she became a real bushman.

About Me

That is the story of building a schooner of my own design, how came I designed it, how I built it, how I knocked my haed a few times and lost 4 woman over it. The legal battle I had with a yacht club, corrupt harbour officials and how the law totally fails in Namibia. But nevertheless, it was fun, I am glad I did it, but I would not recommend it, unless a special boat cannot be found. As this was my case.
