Schooner Rachel Corrie

• Mar. 21, 2005 - Blocks and things

I made some blocks out of rose wood, but changed later to ash. Here the blocks resting on the Iroko hatch of the rear cabin.

Pinrails, belay pins and traditional blocks give a bot a special charm, and are very, very practical as it turned out. I made 2 x 30kg , 2 x 45kg and 1x 60kg anchors, window frames, gas sensors and other electronic monitors, bought a tractor for its engine.

I discarded a Ford and Mercedes engine in favour of an aircooled Deutz that runs free of vibration, removes condensation from the boat, heats the boat and dries the washing.

About Me

That is the story of building a schooner of my own design, how came I designed it, how I built it, how I knocked my haed a few times and lost 4 woman over it. The legal battle I had with a yacht club, corrupt harbour officials and how the law totally fails in Namibia. But nevertheless, it was fun, I am glad I did it, but I would not recommend it, unless a special boat cannot be found. As this was my case.
