Schooner Rachel Corrie
• Mar. 21, 2005 - Quadrant and other parts
Thinking of building a boat, one thinks of the hull only. Books warn you, people who have done it warn you about it, but you never think of the thousand things you have to make or buy. In my case it was make in every case. Cutting, bending, welding, turning and working on the forge during the day, my evenings were spent with a CAD program, designing details as I went along.
The boat would oerate in the southern atlantic and possibly sail to Antarktica. When loyds spec said use 30mm round bar, it would be 45mm on my boat. Despite that, the boat is rather light for its size.

About Me
That is the story of building a schooner of my own design, how came I designed it, how I built it, how I knocked my haed a few times and lost 4 woman over it. The legal battle I had with a yacht club, corrupt harbour officials and how the law totally fails in Namibia.
But nevertheless, it was fun, I am glad I did it, but I would not recommend it, unless a special boat cannot be found. As this was my case.
