Cruising on MENISCUS

May. 23, 2009 - Preparing for British Isles Circumnavigation

Last year, Martin with friend Alastair circumnavigated mainland UK in a clockwise direction  in yacht Meniscus from her home port Whitehaven. We visited Outer Hebrides, Orkney, Scilly and Ireland.  See http://www.meniscus.me.uk

This year We, co-owners Martin and Pat, are planning an anticlockwise circumnavigation of the British Isles, including Ireland, Scilly, Channel Isles, Shetland and Outer Hebrides. For this we are still completing boat prearations but hope to depart Whitehaven in the next week or so. To do the whole trip we had planned to set off on 15th May. Being late we may have to cut short the trip. We will keep you informed.

Yacht Meniscus is a 32 foot twin keeled sloop built by Martin from a Hunter Channel 32 "sailaway" kit. A recent RNLI inspector described it as a well-found yacht.

We have cruised extensively and raced the yacht succesfully, winning many trophies including in the "Round Isle of Man" races. Now is the time for an extended cruise.
