There's no such thing as marine diesel antifreeze!
After much dead ends and puzzled looks, I was able to finally contact Art, who told me that, no, they'd simply filled the engine with a 50-50 mix of Prestone and distilled water.
I wanted to fill the engine, check it out, but we went to Browntown, and then, by the time we got back and had dinner, it was getting late.
Yeah, I know, the little voices kept chiding me for not filing it up, checking it out to see if it didn't overheat.
I finally announced that I was gonna go down to the boat and do so (it was now about 2230), so I stopped by Wally World and got a pre mixed 50/50 Prestone gallon and went down to the boat. While D dried some clothes at the Marina laundary, I filled the reservoir (it took about 2/3 of the gallon), checked the oil, belt and batteries, and fired the thing up.
I let it run for about 5 minutes, then put it into gear, trying to sink the dock. The engine temperature gage never climbed over 185, just sat there as if glued and I continued to run the engine for about thirty more minutes.
Shutting everything down, I checked for leaks, and none were found. Seems like we'll be ready for a sea trail pretty quick.... |
