Easter PlansSomehow I volunteered to organise an Easter cruise for the 3Cs (Chanctonbury Cruising Club) - it must have been one glass too many at the AGM last eyar! Anyway as it turns out the task has proved relatively straight forward - those with boats are all from the same marina so departure & arrival times are fairly easy to predict as Southsea is tide bound. Those without boats have all found a berth or berths somewhere in the fleet. So 5 boats will make the trip tonight/tomorrow and one on Saturday. Betths are booked on the other side and a student will turn up at 10 am on Saturday to find out what we think of the services provided - part of a current tourist survey going on.We've restaurant tables booked for both nights in Cherbourg (the restaurant is probably now convinced that the English are crazy with tables for 10 ish people on each night) but it seemed sensible that the slower boats/late arrivals eat out on together on Saturday. The rest of us want to celebrate our arrival as soon as we get there so are eating in Le Contentin on Friday night. Well that's the logistics organised and the weather might behave too - nice northerlies to gently blow us there if they hold out (Meteo France seem to think they won't beyond 7am on Friday, becoming variable nothings). HW Portsmouth tides being in the early hours of Friday morning, tThe skipper is suggesting we leave after HW but still in the early hours rather than at midnight (this first point at which there is depth over the sill for us to leave the marina). His reasoning is that it'll get light soon after setting off so we can fly the kite or if fog threatens tomorrow (not that it looks likely currently) it'll burn off shortly after sunrise. Either way leaving later will make for a more enjoayable passage he says. We'll see - I think the crew will be itching to get away as soon as possible after supper tonight. 7:12 AM - Apr. 5, 2007 - post comment
