Mishaps and Memories

Mar. 16, 2008 - forgot the tender

I didn't mention that the overnight deluge had all but filled the tender.... putting a lot of strain on the lifting points... the drain didn't drain easily.... it is one of the sort designed to drain when under way, with a rubber flap... so I poked a stick into the valve to jam the rubber open, lowered the rear to make it an even more extreme angle, and lashed it a bit more firmly to stop it tilting.... seemed to work... time will tell....

Apr. 3, 2008 - Dinghy Lashing to Davits

Posted by swagman
Hi Ho,
If you've not got them, IMHO its worth investing in a couple cheap helicopter rachets and webbing straps to bind your dinghy to your davits.
When underway they are an invaluable back up in case the lifting tackle / clips / whatever gives way, plus by strapping up tight you'll minimise movement and thereby chafe.
If the dnighy has any space to bounce - ithe loads it applies to the davits is significantly increased also.
Cheap as, in any UK automotive store.
Cheers
JOHN
