The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Apr. 4, 2006 - Introductions and other such nonsense...

First blog... I hope this goes better than the website attempt.  At least here we can update as we damned well choose.  And it is FREE.  I like that even more.  No pressure,  No feelings of inadequacy and no guilt of wasting money if I don't update.  HEY, this is for me!

I want to write something about how nice of a day it is, where we've been sailing and what we've been doing...but the type A personality inside me just has to make the first blog something about the boat and the barrel of monkeys that comprise the S/V Holding Pattern.

First things first...HP is a 1974 ketch rigged Challenger sailboat.  She's a real beauty... no one believes her age.  But think about it... isn't it what every self-respecting lady really wants?  To be mistaken for a much younger chick?   20 years of the same owners who circumnavigated with her and cared for her with love really made a difference.  We have kept the tradition alive.  We care for her as if she were fragile but she's a tank.  40' (closer to 50' with bowsprit and davits). 6' keel, and has seen all this world has to offer.  She is very forviging to sail.  I have to say, for us, she's the perfect boat,  Cockpit rigged so we can easily sail her shorthanded.

Now every ship has to have a crew... and what a crew they be...

Brian : El Presidente of the Nomadic Temporary Autonomous Zone, engine monkey, electronics junkie, Deadhead supreme.

Heather: Supreme Commander, Galley wench, Official Problem Solver, Great Seamstress of the Realm.

Vevela: Feline, Sun Goddess, Low maintenance, nonchalant, chicken****.

Takara: Feline, Inspector Gadget, High Maintenance, Tweaked out, fearless.

That's it.  More will follow.  No need to be overly informative or formal.  It is mid 70's outside.  No need to sit in here any longer.  We shall sally forth and meet some adventure.  Maybe go stock up at Sav-a-Lot (enter the Twilight Zone) or make the final preparations to cross into the Bahamas.  A few projects left and then we're in the clear.

Gonna to crank up the iPod and get something accomplished.  I promise.  Really.
