The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Mar. 30, 2007 - Closer...

The Motley Crew of S/V Holding Pattern

Well, it is officially GO time...

Hopefully 9 days from now we'll be on our merry way.  Both this week and next Sunday we go sailing.

Until then, we're busier than a randy goat...

Heather's brother, his wife Stephanie and daughter Ellie are going to Orlando for a few days on holiday and since we're in proximity they're going to stop in an say hello for a day or two.  We're both looking forward to it.  They're coming Saturday, we will show them St. Augustine, I think; Sunday we're going out for a sail with them.  It should be fun except the forecast is for 5-8mph wind, so maybe we will go for a motor.  NOAA is rarely correct, though, so it will probably be a good day to sail.  They've not properly seen Holding Pattern so it will be good.

The cabin, cockpit, and decks are clear and seaworthy, we've returned to the compartmentalized living that cruising life necessitates, a place for everything and everything in its place.  We need to fill fuel, water, and propane.  Our last LPG tank lasted nearly 6 months and that was during winter when we do most of our heavy cooking and baking; summer we use much less propane.

We've been asked to do a short-distance delivery for a good friend of ours.  While we're flattered that they want to employ us, it's a tremendous responsibility and would be a first; it would be quite routine though and depth would be our only worry.  We still have not decided what to do.

We went to the grocery and into town yesterday with Phil & Christine from Anju.  Originally from Wales, they both passed the exam for their Florida drivers license yesterday.  A friend loaned them a car and they wanted to celebrate so they asked us to go for a ride.  I swear every light turned yellow just in time for them to make a judgement call.  One traffic light was malfunctioning and anarchy was in session.  It was truly trial by fire.  But we got some necessary provisions, thanks to their kindness.

Most of our necessary chores are done before going to sea although there are a few bits left to do.  Nothing urgent, though.
