I love this time of year.
Anytime we can wake up in shorts and stay that way all day is all right. Every day this week is supposed to be in the upper 70's and low 80's; nights not below 58. Laundry goes down...shorts take up much less room than pants and shirts are optional, so our burden is lessened in the heat, yet another bonus. I think I am not only solar powered but somehow heat powered too. The more skin I can have exposed to the sunlight and warmth the better my mood, the more I get done $work-wise, and the more ambition I have to work on HP. Heather is Heather regardless, I am light-heat driven.
There is also something about these spring evenings...the light is longer. Yes, it stays light longer but it is the effect of the light, the quality of light that is most enjoyable. It is not the stuffy that summer brings and it is not the dreary 'goodbye sunshine' that we see all winter...it's a surreal light, somethng straight out of the Garden of Eden. It's such a pleasure to sit in the cockpit with an after dinner cocktail and read a few pages of a book and watch the sun go down. "Livin' my life like a song" or so says Jimmy Buffett.
It's also grand being able to be back in the cockpit to do my paid work. This is the first "winter" we've seen in a few years, we have always been far enough south to not worry, this year we was temps in the 20's multiple times. You can't pay me enough to sit outside then. But now I can return to my office. Green Cove Springs is the first place in over a year that I've not had the pleasure of seeing dolphin on occasion while working. Alligators maybe. River otters, once or twice and though they are every bit as enjoyable they are much less common here...so not worth getting worked up about. Working outside means Heather can have the radio on inside and I won't be distracted. The cruising kitties really enjoy the change in weather as well. The catnip is growing like crazy in the cockpit and we've had an occasion or two with an overzealous kitty playing too hard with the plant...somehow I think that fiberglass is a catalyst with dirt to make an extra-powerful mud.
Sunday evening we decided to into the marina and socialize at the porch for a bit. We found ourselves headlong in a St. Patrick's Day feast complete with corned beef, cabbage, potatoes...the works. As kismet would have it we had brought a bottle of wine to go with our socialization...the bottle of Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc went perfectly with dinner and was enjoyed by all.
The surgeon released Heather yesterday. The sunshine and warmth is well appreciated there too. Heather and I have been going on nice walks morning and evening. She's feeling much better.
Today's projects are restitching the mainsail cover and the dinghy cover. Going to get a few loads of water. Going to investigate why the port water tank is not wanting to draw water. Going to socialize with Keith from Content tonight. Going, going, going.
I'm not about to proof this. I'm going outside in the sunshine.
17 days until we leave...
Happy Friday, y'all. |
