The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Mar. 16, 2007 - It's a Small World After All

Heather is feeling better and better each day.  It was time for an outing.  The dinghy was out, it is still being punished for attempting to mutiny and escape.  Actually, the wind, sitting on inflatable tubes, etc. wouldn't be the best for recovery.  So, let me back up a bit...
For the last two months or so Greg on Southern Cross and I have been talking about ordering a diesel treatment called Stanadyne.  It is supposedly the best of the best, etc. It comes highly recommended to say the least.  So we split a case to save the money, it was on backorder from the manufacturer, Greg left for St. Augustine to work on a job, and the Stanadyne came in a day or so ago.
Randy on Moonrise who left going down the coast preparing to cross to the Bahamas had an autopilot issue and decided to run the ICW down the coast instead of running outside.  He left us the keys to his car so we could do Dr. appt's and take the Stanadyne to Greg when it arrived, he and Greg have been friends for years.  Randy spent a few days in Titusville which is our hailing port, where we're from.  While there he met our good friend Paul on Ivanhoe, after some conversation the subject of 'the kids', us, came up.  So long story short, Paul offers Randy use of a car.
While we're in St. Augustine we ran into Mary and Eric on Sea Gypsy.  We met them while we were both in Titusville preparing to leave dock and cruise.  They're in St. Augustine enjoying the ambiance of the place.  While there we see Dream, who we met in St. Mary's, GA last summer.
You see, the world just keeps getting smaller.
Whilst in St. A, we stop in the BEST spice store we've ever seen, Old Florida Spice Traders, www.oldfloridaspicetraders.com they are simply the best.  Their selection of salts alone is amazing.  But the store has a friendly atmosphere not to mention they're sailors too.  Heather and I walk in and immediately we hear "Hello, you're the couple from the sailboat that was here last year, right?"  It was just about 11 months ago that we were there and we were always dragging other cruisers and visiting friends into the store.  How flattering they recognized us, not to mention the generous discount.  Having friends does help.
We get home and settled in for the evening and the phone rings.  Alan and Barb on Early Out called.  Some of our best cruising friends yet, we've shared many a dinner and many a laugh with them, not to mention lots of boat talk and such.  We'd gotten signals crossed somehow and contact had been lost for a while.  They're back in Titusville and thinking of heading north this summer.  Sounds like we some of the same destinations in mind so it will be great to see old friends in a new location.  The world will get just a bit smaller then.
