The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Nov. 23, 2006 - Happy Smurfgiving

It's Turkey Day!  The yard here at Green Cove Springs provides turkey and ham and everyone is bringing assorted dishes - we're doing pasta salad and sweet potato casserole.

We were going to take today as a true holiday but after the last two days being quite chilly (Orlando, FL saw snow flurries over the last 2 nights!) and in general snotty weather so little work has gotten done outside.

Pulled the tape on the cove stripe and we're 99% happy - one or two small flaws and the port side scrollwork could be painted a bit neater - but not necessarily by me - Michaelangelo, maybe.  Rembrandt, possibly.  Rayburn, no.

We taped off the hull and put the first coat of Ultima SR ablative bottom paint (for friends and family, ablative paint means that things can't grow on the bottom because micro-layers of the paint ablade as we move through the water - ablative is great antifouling for boats that move a lot)  Beautiful dark blue, just what we wanted!  Two more coats to go.  Means we need one more gallon.  Took a little more than we thought... 1 1/5 to 1 1/4 gallons.

The downside...we're blue.  Splatter is an amazing thing especially when what you're working with has the consistency of sour cream, thick, thick sour cream.  Sunglasses and hands got it the worst.  Acetone, paint thinner, etc. won't take it off.  Time will do the trick.

I've not been paying attention and we have to be at the dinner in 10 minutes.  Sweet potatoes are nearly done, I may or may not return to spell check this and re-post.

If not, oh well, it's the spirit that counts.
