Took a nice sail the other day. 70 degrees, 10-13kt wind, light chop, ideal day! Put up the mainsail and staysail and buzzed along happily. Still waiting for the new bearing for the Harken roller furler for the jib/genoa... something like 273 torlon ball bearings we get to replace.
Nothing eventful in the sail except for the dolphin following us, but a good reminder of why we're here and why this is such a wonderful way to go. Such peace, such a good way to travel. Wind popping until everything is trimmed just so... hit KITT (Autopilot, our name for it after the Knight Rider show...) and sit back and enjoy the ride. Came back inside and hit the St. Mary's river with tide/current and hit a solid 6.5 knots! We broke the speed of snot!
Fired up the engine when we got into narrows/tight turn and black smoke! Fuel filters begged for attention. Got that taken care of and all's well once again.
We're in a struggle for supremecy amongst species and fighting a second front for control of turf. Sound like an inner-city gang problem?
There are 4 boats here in the anchorage. 2 occupied, 2 empty, on moorings.
The birds absolutely insist on landing on the two that are occupado.
It seems that we spend half the day chasing birds off, scrubbing their mess off of the solar panels...when they leave their boat they go to visit boB (intentional) on Krysta Lynn. He chases them off and they fly over to us.
What the hell? There are other boats whose owners would be oblivious to their presence. Our cats chase the birds away, we shoo them, try to make life uncomfortable for them, but to no avail. |
