9-11-1999-9-11-2006 - We've been married 7 years today. Living together 24/7 onboard for the last 365 days we both agree it is the best year yet. Between us we can't remember the last argument or squabble we had it has been that long. I'd say that's pretty good... so we're raising our HP flag today... we had the holiday before it got famous...it was ours first.
With everything else happening, it seems I forgot to mention we've moved again. Just a short little trip from St. Mary's to Fernandina Beach...we needed the Post Office, Hardware store, etc... plus here we can choose an E-W exposure with tide-current...in St.M we have N-S...and this time of year a majority of our winds are E. The wind gen has been spinning like a Dervish whereas for the last few weeks we've been lacking on a good solid charge... Sailed out on Main & Staysail, nice little push from the wind, dolphin aplenty, and lots of morning sun.
Saw our first Navy Sub in Cumberland Sound... much bigger than I imagined.
We've been asked about trash disposal, kitty litter, etc. What do we do with it out here?? First, we make as little as possible; about 1.5 - 2 white kitchen bags per week on a heavy week - usually only one whitey. We have a trash can in the galley and in the head... should one get full before we're heading into land then we put it in a heavy black bag and either put it in the V-berth or on the davits.
I suppose not everyone understands marine heads (toilets) so here goes... no paper goes into the head...ever. It goes into a well sealed trach can in the head. Now it sounds odd but I promise you that you will never detect the slightest odor in our head. It works much better than you think and it eliminates clogs which marine toilets are notorious for...and guests are notorious to clogging up.
As far as litter goes, we empty it into a plastic grocery sack and take it in with the trash, we scoop 'em every day.
We never bring any cardboard boxes or packaging onboard - pest eggs are often found in the cardboard & glues used. Since all of our dried goods are in their own containers all of the packaging goes away before we leave land. Cans and other crush-ables are compacted...we have become very conscious of our waste and how much trash we produce. In the last year we have greatly minimized our garbage...and therefore minimized our environmental impact.
Battery is dying...no time to read...will do so when she revives... any goofiness will be pardoned by the reader. |
