Alberto now Ernesto. B, C, and D saw fit to go elsewhere. Maybe it is for the best, I didn't really like consonants when we had to deal with Wilma last year. Right now both NOAA and Chris Parker aim Ernesto this way. There are a lot of environmental factors that can (and probably will) shift the forecast between now and next Friday (when they say it should impact us.) Rarely does the storm hit where the initial forecasts show. Charley was a great example.
We are in the decision making process right now of where to go and what our best option is...we're watching this as closely as anyone so don't worry and we are prepared to move to avoid when a path is more certain or to hunker down and take defensive action.
GET THIS...there is some psychic (nutjob?) in town who in June predicted St. Mary's would be devastated by a hurricane Sept 8 or 9. The storm is supposed to hit on the 1st. He would be one week off to the day.
Ok, now for some lighter stuff...
A few oddities we have noticed...
-
We don't really wear our rings anymore unless we go to land. Too many hazards to remove a finger out here.
-
Our Contacts list on the phone is crazy... more boat names than anything... it reads something like Anthyllide, Cap'n Mike, Early Out, GmaH, JollyTolly, MomB, MomR, Pat, Southern Cross, Scott, St. Brendans (mail), Steve, and Winterhawk.
-
Shirt laundry is almost nonexistent this time of year. Mostly thin tank tops for H and nothing for B but maybe 1 or 2 t's a week worn into land. Nice.
-
Every piece of laundry that has been done since March has been hung on the lifelines to dry.
-
We haven't bought fresh milk in a long time now. Nido powdered milk is quite good and watered down is quite close to skim. Removes the need for the grocery on a regular basis...plus we had a string of bad seals (on the milk jugs, not the curcus variety...)
Was in talking to the owner of the General Store here in town. They offered us a ride to Sam's Club and a tax-free trip. Didn't even have to think about it... when do we go? Nice to stock up on some bulk items, it will save us a good bit of scratch at the grocery next time.
Music while blogging: mostly Duran Duran and WHAM!, some throwback to the 80's, I guess.
