The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Aug. 15, 2006 - Cool News from the Front

We had a cold front move through Saturday afternoon.  Ever since there have been nice sustained 15mph winds, clear skies, and cool weather.  The cabin hasn't broken 80 degrees since Sat. afternoon.  The windscoops have been pumping cool, fresh air inside...things are blowing around in the cabin.  We've been sleeping like babies.  I haven't broken a sweat in two days.

While B was doing paid work today, H was fixing the dinghy cover, finishing the mending of the dodger...she does a professional lookng stitch by hand.  Better than I can do yet.  When boat work time came we got down to brass tacks...

Emptied galley cabinet to look at faucet.  Decided it needed major reconstructive surgery.  Put it back together, rearranging the cabinet in the process.  Need to go to Home Depot or such before proceeding.

Made 2 new sprouters from 2/$1.00 containers we found at the store.  Work very well...and the Dremel still reigns as my second favorite tool...next to the Leatherman (which I think every human should be issued at birth.)

Got the dive gear together and tested everything, found a leak and switched a few things around...made one good set of dive gear.  Checked the prop zinc at slack current.  Still have good connections on the shaft.  I am amazed.  Visibility is all of 2 feet but plenty of small fish darting around.    Decide to clean the bottom another day when the wind is lighter.  Heather tends the safety line, moving it up and down the boat as necessary. I desperately need a hood before I dive again...had an ecosystem of creepy-crawlies in my hair.

Readied everythng to do interior zincs tomorrow (refrig & engine) so that will go a bit quicker.  I don't want to exceed the recommended dose of zinc in one day.

Soldered my LED photoelectric anchor lights together.  Frankenlight.  Parts of several garden solar lights...mix'n'match.  We'll see tonight if it works.

H did a magnificent job on the stainless in the galley.  It shines & shimmers.  She's also working on sanding and painting the companionway.  An update...we found a dentist in Brunswick that does the sort of root canal she needs so we're headed that direction when we know we can get an appointment.

TTFN...
