The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Aug. 4, 2006 - NOAA Tells the Truth By Accident

Cap'n Mike, this one's for you...

NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin.) sucks.  Period.  Their forecasts are unreliable.  The other day we were getting terrible storms moving from the SW to NE.  NOAA gave warnings that these storms were moving rapidly to the SW.  So much for accuracy.

But then they hit the nail on the head.  This is a true story...

We were listening to the current conditions and short term forecast when we heard:

"The current temperature is 903 degrees."

Someone forgot their decimal  point.  But Heather and I agree on their accuracy.  Earlier I had estimated it to be 1700 degrees, but 903 is believable also.
