The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Jul. 21, 2006 - Birds

I used to work for the National Audobon Society.  I love birds.

At least I used to.

Birds are dismantling HP bit by bit.  It's like Alfred Hitchcock meets Rob Zombie.

(those movie references were for you, Davey...)

They mess on the boat regularly.  There are an abundance of cars inland.  Ladies wiith ugly hats, little kids shoulders... why my boat?  And why specifically my solar panels?

The birds sit on the spreaders and pick the tape off, using it for the nests wherein their unholy union only makes more birds to pick off spreader tape of future generations of boaters.  The cycle of life a la Salvador Dali?

The birds have incurred my wrath.  I combined lima beans and a slingshot.  I have pretty good aim if the wind isn't interfering too much.  I may have incurred the wrath of the birds because a spreader light is missing.

I woke up this morning, yawned, stretched...looking up through the open hatch I notice the port side spreader light is gone and twice as much mess on the deck.

Adrienne on Galago tells us yesterday that the birds were all over her boat so she chased them off and they flew across the anchorage and every bird landed on our boat.  So the way I see it, Galago owes us a new spreader light.  They can work out the difference with the birds.
