Everyone has daily rituals. Here are a few of ours.
Brian has 3 strips of bacon every morning(The precooked brands are great & much
less grease)
Listen to Chris Parker's weather forecast every morning but Sunday at 6:30am on
SSB 4045mhz. He's amazing.
Check a list of other weather sources. NOAA weather radio, weatherfax, etc.
See what's on our minds?
Tea time. How quaint, eh? But yes, it is true. Tea time is usually between 7pm to
sunset, depending on the evening's activities. If you drink tea, you HAVE to
have the IngenuiTEApot. It is a gravity flow, steeping style pot. Makes the
absolute best cup I have ever tasted. But it is also a combination of good teas
from Adagio. In fact, I have a cup of Assam Harmony brewing right now.
1 tsp leaves, 3 minute brew, one lump of sugar, no milk. Perfect.
Sunset. It happens every day just like clockwork. It is a ritual that people have
followed from the beginning of time, watching that ball of fire slip below the
horizon. I feel a part of something bigger, some fraternal order of skywatchers.
Work. Every day Brian cloisters himself inside. Heather busies herself with the
iPod for company for a few hours morning and again midday. See, not
everything is out of the ordinary.
Anchor check. Done first thing in the morning, after returning from any outing,
and before bed.
Personal Planetarium. There is very little light pollution here. Every night we go
out on deck about 10:30 or 11:00 to sit and watch the stars. Why this
particular and peculiar time? Tide change. Within the 30 min. or so the
current slacks off, goes fully slack, then changes, so we turn 180 degrees.
It is truly like a planetarium, with the slow turn, the stars are so clear and so
numerous, it looks like a museum show. With the Leonids meteor shower
coming up 8/10-11, we'll be quite faithful as already we average 2-6 shooting
stars every night.
Will probably add more but a storm is coming in and flashing lightning doesn't thrill me, as we have discussed in earlier blogs. I will spellcheck this later so if my fingers went a little crazy and added a few consonants...well, all apologies. I'll do it another day. |
