The charger for the iPod died. Our unlimited music suddenly found severe limits.
After taking it apart, it appeared to be only a fuse in the 12v housing. When I tried to put it back together, the spring sprung. A small spring in the tip popped out. We looked all over HP's half acre for it to no avail. So I took some tin foil to use as a conductor, good enough.
It worked for a minute and then nothing. Opened it back up and found a small wire had come unsoldered from the electronic chip-base. Made bare new wire and attached it.
Turns out the spring had flown about 20' forward - in a JFK-style ricochet. How it got over, around, and through everything necessary to wind up there amazes me still and will be the subject of conspiracy theories for a long time to come.
but I digress.
With the spring found, wiring redone, new fuse installed, the housing was reattached and WE HAVE LIFTOFF!
The iPod is charging once again. Grateful Dead are playing a beautiful version of Terrapin Station...and somewhat loudly at that. Because victory is mine!
Thus concludes the saga of the Ipod Charger Revolt of 2006.
