The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Jun. 25, 2006 - Teenage Escape Plan

Meow.

Meow.

MEOW!

This is how I awoke this morning.  I reach up to pet Takara... then realize the cat is not supposed to be wet.  This is the opposite of cat.

B: Heather...Takara is wet.

H: Huh?

B: She's wet.

H: How?

B: Something spilled?

H: I bet she snuck out.

B: No.... hatches weren't open enough and the windscoop was in. She could't get past that.

H: Had to.

B: No...no way.  She wouldn't do that  (I delude myself that the cat listens to us...)

H: Then why is just her butt and paws wet?

B: I dunno but she didn't get out.

H: Whatever you say...but she got out.

The windscoop was flapping in the changing wind so I wen tout to take it down... what to my wondering eyes should appear?  A bunch of kitty tracks through the dew up and down the boat.

I poke my head in the hatch...

"Heather....I told you that screwhead escaped last night.  She got out!"

So now she can jump out the hatches, squeeze ut the companionway screen... what's next?  We can't exchange "anchor watch" for "cat watch" and we sure as hell don;t trust her to be out on her own.

Why?

Because she's a screwhead.
