The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Jun. 9, 2006 - It's a Small World After All

It is always good to see old friends.  I am constantly amazed at how often we run into prople we've met somewhere along the waterway.

We came back to HP tonight to see Rob & Nancy from ESCape Key in the anchorage.  We exchanged joyful hellos, shared stories of the last few months over pizza and beer, and enjoyed a sunset from their flybridge - even had a rare treat: watching the evening news on their TiVo.  Yeah, we're spoiled.  But we've got a worldwide network of friends - any of which could show up tomorrow in any given anchorage... and it will be just like we saw each other yesterday.

It is a give and take - information on locations and charts, help with a broken part or a stuck anchor, and comfort that someone else relates to the joys of cruising and can sympathize with the hardships.  It is not only give and take - it is selfless in the best way.

I like these kind of friends.
